Spring Multi-Day Tours
Alpine Col Loop     3 Day

This, another great route in the heart of the High Sierra that can be done as a shorter three-day tour. It visits spectacular Sierra terrain including the Evolution group skiing beneath the North Face of Mt. Darwin and Mendel.

Starting Point:
North Lake (9,400'), off Hwy 168 near Hwy 395, just west of Bishop.

The Route:
The route climbs from North Lake up the North Fork of Bishop Creek, beneath the Piute Crags to Piute Lake (10,950'). This is usually a good campsite for the night. From here, it's an easy climb to Piute Pass (11,425'), crossing the Sierra Crest to Muriel Lake and Gotthe Lake in the spectacular Gotthe Cirque. From here, a steep climb crests at Alpine Col (12,350').

A fantastic descent and contour of a beautiful cirque brings us to Darwin Canyon (11,600') and an impressive camp below Mt. Mendel and Darwin. The last day makes a long, stout climb to Lamark Col and if time allows, a side trip to the summit of Mt. Darwin before a long, complex descent down the Lamark Creek drainage back to North Lake.

-Routes may vary-

Preparation:
Prepare for light-weight ski camping with well selected and well fit equipment. 1-2 days pre acclimatization recommended prior to the climb.
