Granite Chief Wilderness High Route 3 Day
This extended version of the Sugar Bowl to Squaw Valley Traverse leaves the traditional route at Tinker's Knob, skis to the headwaters of the American River to climb and ski Lion and Needle Peak, before skiing to Squaw Valley. This more rigorous, yet reasonable route offers great skiing and two nights out practicing our High and Light ski camping system.
This variation was first skied by Bela Vadasz and Peter Leh, along with the AMGA Ski Guide Course instructors and candidates. It proved to be a great route for good skiers and we have repeated it every year ever since.
Skills covered include:
- Ultra light, yet super comfortable ski camping system
- Excellent packing technique
- Use of transceivers, probes and shovels
- Touring tips with climbing skins
- Avalanche hazard recognition
- Appropriate travel techniques
- Campsite selection and construction
- Skiing with an overnight pack

Cost: $422
