Mt. Shasta (14,162'), Hotlum-Bolam Ridge     2 Day

The Hotlum-Bolam Ridge is a great route and a great alternative to the Standard John Muir Route, especially later in the climbing season when the snow has melted out on the Standard Route, exposing the loose, unpleasant rock.

The northside of the mountain offers superb climbing with a much more remote, alpine feel. There is a surprisingly high trailhead, a good trail that has been recently improved to the formation known as North Gate, then pleasant travel to the highcamp between 9,000' and 10,000', often near exposed water.

The route involves moderate climbing on the ridge and glacier that can be icy, therefore previous experience with ice axe and crampons is required for our 2-day itinerary (or Director's approval).
