Intro to Backcountry Boarding 1 Day
After orientation, clothing and gear check, we'll shuttle to our trailhead near Doner Pass for the day's lesson/tour. We'll compare uphill transport options between light, modern snowshoes using your regular board with the use of a split-board and climbing skins. Either can work for this course.
The course will cover tour planning, uphill route finding, track setting, avalanche hazard management including the use of avalanche transceivers, probes and shovels, as well as emergency survival techniques. This is for boarders who can link turns on moderate slopes in a variety of snow conditions.
Skills covered will include:
- Appropriate clothing and accessories
- Touring equipment options
- Intro to avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel
- Uphill touring techniques with climbing skins or snowshoes
- Avalanche hazard recognition and avoidance
- Downhill group travel techniques
